The School of Geography and Archaeology at NUI Galway invites applications for a permanent Lectureship in Geography. An active research profile and PhD are essential for the post, while appropriate teaching experience, pedagogic innovation in creatively engaging students in active learning and a commitment to relevant, collaborative research practices are all desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to teach, design courses and supervise students from first year BA to PhD level, to be involved in field classes and administration and to contribute to the research activities of both discipline and School, as well as to relevant research clusters across the University. In relation to this post, we would like to hear from physical geographers with demonstrable interests in contributing to the School’s laboratory- and field-based research and teaching practices. All specialisations will be considered, with the successful candidate expected to teach across a range of undergraduate classes in physical geography.

The School of Education at the National University of Ireland, Galway offers a range of initial teacher education and continuing professional development programmes. At graduate level, the School provides the Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) and the Dioplóma Gairmiúil san Oideachas (DGO), for education through the medium of Irish. In collaboration with the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Applied Mathematics, the School of Education offers a concurrent, undergraduate teacher education degree: the B.A. Mathematics and Education, which qualifies graduates to teach Mathematics and Applied Mathematics to honours Leaving Certificate level in post-primary schools. This programme, which enrolled its first students in 2008/2009, is unique in Ireland and internationally in terms of its specialist focus on the mathematical sciences, and mathematics and applied mathematics pedagogies. The National University of Ireland, Galway seeks to appoint an Established Professor in Modern Irish in the School of Languages, Literatures and Culture within the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies. The person when appointed will be a member of the Discipline of Irish.
The School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures contains six disciplines, Classics, French, Gaeilge, German, Italian and Spanish with more than 40 full time academic staff members engaged in teaching and research in the School.
Roinn na Gaeilge currently has about 600 students at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels, on the undergraduate programmes Gaeilge and Celtic Civilisation, on the MA Nua-Ghaeilge and the PhD Nua-Ghaeilge.

This investment has seen the development of a 250m2 facility, housing two independent production suites. CCMI is seeking to produce medicinal grade human stem cells as Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) for clinical trials. The CCMI is managed by the Regenerative Medicine Institute (REMEDI) www.remedi.ie which is a Science Foundation Ireland-funded biomedical research centre with a primary goal of studying stem cell biology and translating these findings to new regenerative therapies for human disease. REMEDI is a partnership of scientists, clinicians, and engineers and it is housed at the National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Science (NCBES) at NUI Galway.
Before CCMI can generate product for regenerative medicine clinical trials, a GMP manufacturing license must be obtained from the Irish Medicines Board (IMB). To support the realisation of this goal, CCMI is seeking to recruit an operations manager. The position is fixed term for an initial period of 12 months (to end March 2013). If a license is obtained within this timeframe, ongoing funding will be available to extend the contract.
